The Worship Experience (1 Corinthians 14:26

Be careful of judging worship by your experience. It also sets up the preacher to think he is being judged on his performance.

Worship is about GOD speaking through one Believer to fellow individual Believers in a group. You wouldn’t say “Good job, GOD! I’d give that 4 out of 5 stars! Last week was a little draggy, but this week…” It’s not based on feelings or experience but GOD working on you bit by bit. It might be a colorful brush stroke or it might be an almost imperceptible pencil mark. But it’s all between you and Him as He makes you His masterpiece.

Be careful. Because that’s where trouble comes in the inevitable cold times that you don’t “feel” anything in a service and think worship isn’t happening. That becomes the Spiritual version of the “I love him but I’m not IN love with him” nonsense.

Worship isn’t about your experience or entertainment but about your being equipped to better show GOD’s love to the world as a member of one part of His Body, the Church. Leave the popcorn and ratings at home.
