Silent or Singing

Why complain? Some say it makes you feel better to “get it off your chest” but where does it go? Onto someone else’s! And what do they do? Unload it on someone else’s chest! Even if you go for counseling, they get your business off of their chest onto someone else’s.

In these Psalms, David shows us the answer is to tell your troubles to GOD alone. He is the only One Who can really do anything about them anyway. He won’t be overwhelmed, won’t pass it off, and you can share anything…ANYTHING…with Him, wherever or whenever. (Although I’d recommend you do this silently at work or your boss will complain about YOU!)

But David goes on to show the cure to your complaints: Praise! You’ve heard it before: Think positive, accentuate the positive, look on the sunny side, count your blessings. It sounds hokey, but ut’s true. Thinking about the good makes you feel good. Not the New Age wishful thinking “visualizing” nonsense but thinking about the good things in life.

The Apostle Paul puts it this way in Philippians 4:8: “…(W)hatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” Not just think about them in passing but really dwell on them, in place of brooding on the bad.

Bad things happen, and you’ll think of them. but don’t dwell on or gripe about them. the only thing that really matters is that you matter to the LORD. When you can say (Fill in the with a complaint) doesn’t matter, because I matter to the LORD.” it changes everything. He bought you with His own Body & Blood. He rose from the dead so you can. That’s plenty to rejoice and praise Him about!

When the world, your sin or your body scream at you, keep your complaints private to GOD alone and your praise public to all. Psalms 38-41
