The Three Visual Literacies

inspired my comment reposted below on the three visual literacies essential to every person from childhood (and why picture books for children have an important place in them):

I agree with you, Rachel Ann. We have three visions: The vision through our eyes, the vision through our minds as we read or listen to words and the vision through the eyes of others through their pictures. The ability to see through the drawings and photos of others, and to go past them and incorporate or adapt them as needed is a key literacy for every child.
